CROWNS

What are Crowns?

A crown is a restoration that helps to cover a tooth that is damaged or broken. Crowns are made to mimic the look and feel of actual teeth. This helps them to restore both the beauty and function of an otherwise compromised tooth. Crowns can easily last for decades without showing any signs of wear.

Why are Crowns needed?

There are many reasons why you may need a dental crown. For one, you might have broken, fractured or cracked a tooth. The tooth is compromised and should be covered with a new crown. Another reason for needing a crown is because a tooth has a large filling in it or a large area of dental decay. You can think of a crown as a protective covering for compromised teeth.

Who is a good candidate for Crowns?

Most patients who need a crown are good candidates for these restorations. We will perform an examination to determine if you might need a crown. Not only do crowns help to protect the tooth from further damage, but they are beneficial in that they cover any areas of tooth that are sharp and jagged. If you think you may need a dental crown, we can easily make and place one for you.

What happens during the procedure for Crowns?

The procedure begins with a local anesthetic that is used to numb the area. We then work to file down the damaged tooth so that the crown can sit comfortably on top. Impressions will then be taken and used to create the brand new crown for you. The second appointment involves placing this crown and adjusting its fit and feel so that it’s more comfortable. Your new crown is permanently in place and you can treat it as you would any other tooth in your mouth. Most dental crowns can last for years and even decades before they may need to be replaced.

If you think you might need a crown, call us today and we will work to get you in for a convenient appointment.
